Sri Padmavathi Ammavari Temple (Tiruchanur)

Temple Overview: The Sri Padmavathi Ammavari Temple, located in Tiruchanur (historically known as Alamelu Mangapuram), is dedicated to Goddess Padmavathi, the divine consort of Lord Venkateswara. Spiritual tradition dictates that a pilgrimage to Tirumala is considered complete only after seeking the blessings of "Ammavaru" here. The Goddess is enshrined in a majestic seated posture (Padmasana) on a golden lotus, holding lotus flowers that symbolize grace and infinite prosperity. The temple serves as the spiritual gateway to the Seven Hills and is renowned for its powerful maternal energy and beautiful Dravidian architecture.
History & Legend: 
The origins of this temple are rooted in the "Sthala Purana" of the Kali Yuga. Legend says that after Goddess Mahalakshmi left Vaikuntam, she manifested in a golden lotus at the Padma Sarovaram (the temple tank) in Tiruchanur. She was raised as Padmavathi, the daughter of Akasha Raja, and later reunited with Lord Srinivasa in a celestial marriage. Historically, the temple site has been a center of worship since the 8th century, with significant structural contributions from the Pallavas, Cholas, and the Vijayanagara Empire. The Sri Krishna Swamy Temple inside the complex is the oldest structure, dating back to 1221 CE.
